BBR Fluidised-bed Biofilter

The basic patented concept is that of the fluidised media bed. The media consists of PVC pellets which provide a growing surface for the bacteria (microbes) that oxidise the pollutants. The media is fluidised by the combined effects of continuous mixing and the upward air velocity through the bed. The media humidity is constantly measured and controlled, allowing the filter to operate at optimum conditions at all times. All this gives the BBR Fluidised-bed Biofilter the following advantages over traditional static bed biofilters:

  • It prevents compaction and channelling of the media, ensuring proper contact between bacteria and the air stream.
  • There is a dramatically increased homogenous microbe density throughout the media bed.
  • The gas to biofilm transition is optimised by controlling the humidity.
  • Waste bio-sludge is removed continuously from the media bed under gravity.

These factors combine to give the BBR Fluidised-bed Biofilter many times more active filtration capacity per unit volume than any of our competitors.
